Forex Trading Sessions: When Is The Best Time?

The Forex market is open 24 hours a day, but not every hour is the same. Some sessions are much more volatile and profitable than others.

The Four Main Sessions

Sydney (22:00 - 07:00 CET)

The smallest session, but important for AUD and NZD pairs. Volatility is relatively low.

Tokyo (00:00 - 09:00 CET)

The Asian session. Important for JPY pairs. Volatility can be high during economic news from Japan.

London (08:00 - 17:00 CET)

The largest and most important session. About 40% of all Forex volume is traded here. EUR, GBP, and CHF pairs are the most active.

New York (13:00 - 22:00 CET)

The second largest session. USD pairs are the most active. The overlap with London is particularly interesting.

The Best Time To Trade

The London-New York Overlap (13:00 - 17:00 CET)

This is the most active period of the day. Both major financial centers are open, which provides maximum liquidity and volatility.

Early London Session (08:00 - 12:00 CET)

The morning in London is also an excellent time. The most important economic data from Europe is published during this period.

Bad Times To Trade

Friday Afternoon

After 17:00 CET, liquidity decreases rapidly. Many traders close their positions for the weekend.

Holiday Seasons

These periods have extremely low liquidity, which can lead to unpredictable price movements.

Your Strategy

Determine which pairs you want to trade and in which sessions. Do not trade outside active hours unless you have a specific strategy. The best trades occur when the market is active enough to meet your goals.
